Point Roofing & Guttering were approached by a customer in Norwich, Norfolk as they were having problems with water pooling on their kitchen flat roof and not draining properly. Our roofers stripped the old roof and added firings to improve the pitch on the roof so it drains correctly. The roof was then boarded with 18 OSB boards and then coated with GRP fibreglass. The ridge tile edging was replaced with lead for better protection and look. Check out the images below to see the full process and finished roof!
Addressing Water Pooling and Drainage Issues
The customers biggest concern was the pooling on the current kitchen flat roof. The customer was aware that this could lead to major problems so wanted the flat roof to be replaced and to drain water properly. The roof had an odd outlet position so our team discussed the project with the customer and explained the best solution.
Improved Roof Pitch for Effective Drainage
For the Point Roofing & Guttering team to get the right drainage on the roof it had to initially be stripped back to the joists. From this point the team could install firrings to direct the water into the right direction and drain down the outlet. These were the most crucial steps in getting the correct fall and drainage so that the pooling would stop.
Robust Decking and GRP Fibreglass Application
Once the firrings were installed and the drainage process was correct the roof was then boarded with 18mm OSB boards to give the roof that solid base for the new top waterproof coating system. GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) fibreglass coating was used for this flat roof replacement as it is strong, durable and known for its longevity, the perfect solution for this type of flat roof and UK climate.
Enhanced Protection and Finishing Touches
The flat roof edging had oversized ridge tiles that were not the best solution for the flat roof and contributed towards the poor drainage. Our flat roofing experts stripped these ridge tiles and fitted code 4 lead flashing as a replacement. Lead is the superior protection and also provides a better appearance.
