A customer contacted us as they were having problems with water pooling on their kitchen flat roof and not draining properly. Our roofers stripped the old roof and added firings to improve the pitch on the roof so it drains correctly. The roof was then boarded with 18 osb boards and then coated with GRP fibreglass. The ridge tile edging was replaced with lead for better protection and look. Check out the images below to see the full process and finished roof!
Addressing Water Pooling and Drainage Issues
The customer reached out after experiencing persistent water pooling on their kitchen’s flat roof, which was not draining as it should. Standing water can quickly lead to leaks, structural damage, and reduced roof lifespan, making prompt action essential.
Improved Roof Pitch for Effective Drainage
To resolve the drainage issue, the team began by stripping away the old roofing materials. Firrings were then expertly installed to increase the roof’s pitch, ensuring that rainwater would flow efficiently towards the drainage points. This crucial step helps prevent future pooling and extends the life of the new roof.
Robust Decking and GRP Fibreglass Application
Once the pitch was corrected, the roof was boarded with sturdy 18mm OSB boards, providing a solid and stable base for the new system. The team then applied a seamless GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) fibreglass coating. GRP is renowned for its strength, longevity, and resistance to both water and UV damage, making it an ideal choice for flat roofs in the UK climate.
Enhanced Protection and Finishing Touches
To complete the installation, the ridge tile edging was replaced with high-quality lead. This not only offers superior protection against the elements but also delivers a smart, professional finish that enhances the property’s appearance.
See the Transformation
The images from this project showcase the full process, from stripping the old roof to the final, flawless GRP finish. The result is a flat roof that not only solves previous drainage problems but also provides long-term peace of mind for the homeowner.
